Petaling Jaya, Melaka and Seberang Perai have been selected as the national and global finalists in the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) competition. Contending among 250 cities from 53 countries representing approximately 66% of the global population, the biennial competition aims to mobilise action and support from cities in the global transition toward a climate-resilient, one-planet future.
Petaling Jaya became one of the national finalists for their various efforts related to sustainability grants and incentives provided to its residents. Meanwhile, Melaka has made serious efforts to revive Sungai Melaka through their multi-million-ringgit river rehabilitation project while Seberang Perai has expanded its recycling facilities and waste management programmes to maximize recycling rates.
